Musical thoughts

Yin1 yue 4 nao2 hai3...

It was fun jamming tunes a cappella style ystd evening at S'pore art cafe. It was as though i was brought back to the time when i was in TP choir singing a cappella inpromptu. Those memories swept thru my mind when i saw Kent Ridge aca singers. It was also great chatting , jamming with them.

I do miss singing a cappella but being not in an a cappella group anymore. I guess those months with beats & pieces kinda killed my joy. I still love a cappella & it will always be a part of the musical me. Rite i am goin back to my very 1st love - pop keyboard. Going to ai qin hai made me miss playing onstage a bit so it was fun jamming onstage there ! A long time ago, i wanted to form a band of my own playing a mixed bag of genres. So i'm tinking on keyboards in jam band with adrian, kim, joel !

My musical roots & main influence was Christian contemporary. After playing Christian contemporary for almost 10 years now, i felt really tired & exhausted musically to the point that playing in the adult worship team became a real drag for me. It was like a signal for me to move onto other genres of music. So... in the past few years, i dabbled in a cappella singing (Budak Pantai-mad?), pop-rock(english & chinese), mandopunk+hokkien rock (crazy over Mayday a.k.a wu yue tian !!) & of late, jazz esp bossa nova. Which actually recharged me musically.

I'm glad that i switched to a cappella singing which is a total cutoff from playing keyboards / piano. And even the other genres which broaden my spectrum of style of playing. Rite now i only have 1 wish - zi 4 tan2 zi4 chang4 (singing while playing the keyboard)...
